Read the table honestly and one thing becomes obvious: there is no single correct aluminium foil thickness in microns. Mistake 1: judging price without checking the aluminium foil thickness in microns
This is the expensive one. Two rolls of identical length are compared, the cheaper is bought, and nobody works out that the cheaper roll is thinner and will be used up faster.

The third mistake is the quiet one. A box says “food grade” and gives no number at all, or gives a number with no standard behind it. Neither can be verified, and neither gives the buyer anything to hold the supplier to if a batch runs thin.
India has a published standard for exactly this. Every foil roll is described by three numbers, and once you can read them in order you can compare any two rolls in the market in about ten seconds.
Take a worked example: 11 m × 295 mm × 11 micron.
- 11 m is the length on the core — how much foil you get, and how often you will be changing the roll.
- 295 mm is the width. This is the most common width in Indian kitchens because it covers a standard mixing bowl or a half-tray in a single pass, with no double-wrapping and no wasted overlap.
