Peak Season Stock Planning for Packaging Distributors: The 40-Date Wedding Calendar and What to Stock

Peak season stock planning for packaging distributors — DAKON plastic food buckets stocked for wedding season 2026–27

Written by the Alfa Foil manufacturing team, Eminent Trade and Export Pvt. Ltd., Raipur — maker of DAKON plastic containers and aluminium foil containers, working to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000:2018, HACCP and GMP. Last reviewed 5 November 2026.

Peak season stock planning decides whether a packaging distributor spends the wedding season selling or apologising. Caterers do not order a little more in November — they order a lot more of a few products, all in the same weeks, and every distributor in the city goes back to the factory at the same time. The one who planned ahead has stock. The others are chasing it.

This guide is written from the factory side, where we see those orders arrive. It gives you the 2026–27 wedding calendar (it comes in two waves, not one long season), the products that rise most and by roughly how much, a three-line worksheet for working out your order, and when to place it. Use it as your peak season stock planning sheet for the months ahead.

Quick Answer: Peak Season Stock Planning for Wedding Season 2026–27

Plan for two waves, not one season. Wave 1 runs from 21 November to 12 December 2026 (11 wedding dates). Weddings then pause for Kharmas until 14 January 2027. Wave 2 runs from 15 January to 14 March 2027 (29 dates, with February the busiest month). In our order books, buckets run at about 2× a normal month and foil containers at about 1.5× during the season, and garbage bags rise sharply too. Order each wave’s stock at least 2–3 weeks before its first date.

The 40-Date Wedding Calendar: Two Waves and a Gap

The 2026–27 season has 40 Hindu wedding (vivah) dates, and they are not spread evenly. Dev Uthani Ekadashi falls on 20 November 2026, and the first date follows the next day. The gap in the middle is what most distributors forget to plan around.

PeriodWedding datesCountWhat it means for your stock
21 Nov – 12 Dec 2026Nov 21, 24, 25, 26 · Dec 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 1211Wave 1 — short and sharp. Stock must already be in your godown by mid-November.
13 Dec 2026 – 14 Jan 2027None (Kharmas from 16 Dec)0The pause. Clear wave 1 dues and place the wave 2 order now.
15 – 31 Jan 2027Jan 15, 18, 19, 20, 24, 26, 27, 30, 319Wave 2 starts. Your first wave 2 delivery should land before 15 January.
February 2027Feb 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 2813The busiest month of the season. Top up in late January.
1 – 14 Mar 2027Mar 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 147The tail. Order lightly — weddings pause again from 15 March.

After the table, the peak season stock planning logic is simple: one order lands before wave 1, a second order lands before wave 2, and a top-up lands before February. Dates are from the Drik Panchang calendar for New Delhi, as listed by HinduTone. Regional calendars differ by a few dates, so check the one your caterers follow, and remember that weddings in other communities carry on through the Kharmas weeks.

Which Disposable Products Peak in Wedding Season

Wedding season is a catering season, so peak season stock planning starts with the caterer’s basket, not the restaurant’s. A caterer serving a 300-plate function needs large containers for food going out, foil for covering and wrapping, cling film for prep, and a lot of garbage bags for the clean-up afterwards.

ProductWho buys it in the seasonWhy it peaksRough rise vs a normal month*
DAKON buckets (2500 / 3200 / 4500 ml)Caterers and event kitchensBulk biryani, sabzi, dal and sweets for functions and take-home packsAbout 2×

*Rough multipliers from Alfa Foil’s own order books across our distributors, shared as a planning guide, not a forecast for your city. Your own sales history beats any average, so if your buckets doubled last season and your foil containers barely moved, plan on your numbers.

Buckets are the product that runs out first. They are bought for one function at a time, in big counts, and the 2500 ml, 3200 ml and 4500 ml sizes all move together. If you supply caterers directly, see our catering container size guide for how many buckets one function uses.

How Much to Order: A 3-Line Peak Season Stock Planning Worksheet

You need three numbers for each product: what you sell in a normal month, the season multiplier, and how long your next delivery takes to reach you. The peak season stock planning maths then fits on one line per product.

  • Line 1 — Season need: normal monthly sales × season multiplier (buckets about 2, foil containers about 1.5).
  • Line 2 — Cover until the next delivery: add enough stock to last until your top-up arrives, not just until you place the order.
  • Line 3 — Buffer: add about 10–15% for the caterer who calls on the day of a function.

A worked example, with numbers made up for illustration: a distributor who normally sells 40 boxes of 4500 ml buckets a month needs about 80 boxes for wave 1 (40 × 2), plus a 10% buffer — call it 88 boxes, in godown by mid-November. For wave 2, which runs about two months, the same distributor plans roughly 160 boxes, split into a January order and a late-January top-up for February.

Two limits shape the order. Alfa Foil’s minimum order is 30 boxes, and cartons can be held in your godown ahead of the season, so the real ceiling is usually your godown space and the cash you want tied up in stock.

When to Order for Each Wave

Order at least 2–3 weeks before the first wedding date of each wave. Peak season stock planning fails most often on timing rather than quantity: in the wedding weeks every distributor reorders at once, so dispatch queues get longer than in a normal month, and transport to your city takes its own time on top.

OrderAim to have it in your godown byWhat to order
Wave 1Mid-November (before 21 Nov)Buckets, foil containers, foil rolls, cling film, garbage bags for about 3 busy weeks
Wave 2 — first orderBefore 15 January, so place it during the Kharmas pauseStock for the second half of January plus early February
February top-upLate JanuaryThe month with the most dates (13) — buckets and garbage bags first
March tailLate February, only if neededA light order; weddings stop again on 15 March

The Kharmas pause is the most useful month in the peak season stock planning calendar. Weddings stop, so your godown empties and your cash comes back from wave 1, and that is exactly when the wave 2 order should go to the factory, well before the January rush.

Diwali vs Wedding Season: Different SKUs Peak

Peak season stock planning for weddings is not a copy of your Diwali plan, because different products peak. At Diwali the rush is in sweet boxes and 2CP containers — mithai, dry fruit and gifting packs (see our plastic sweet containers page). In wedding season the rush moves to buckets, foil containers and garbage bags.

So a distributor who copies last Diwali’s order into November ends up with sweet boxes left over and no buckets. If you are new to the trade, our guide to starting a disposable business in India covers the Diwali side and your opening stock; this page covers the wedding season after it.

4 Peak Season Stock Planning Mistakes Distributors Make

1. Ordering after the first wedding date

By the time caterers start calling, every other distributor is ordering too. Stock that is ordered in the second week of the wave often arrives after the busiest dates have gone.

2. One huge order for both waves

Ordering everything in November ties up cash and godown space through the Kharmas weeks, when nothing moves. Two orders, one per wave, keep stock fresh and cash free.

3. Stocking buckets but not the rest of the basket

A caterer wants buckets, foil, cling film and garbage bags from one supplier. If you only have buckets, the rest of the order goes to someone else, and next time the buckets may follow.

4. Planning from Diwali numbers

Diwali and wedding season peak on different SKUs. Plan each season from its own sales history, product by product.

Stock the Whole Catering Basket From One Manufacturer

The simplest way to make peak season stock planning work is to order the whole catering basket in one dispatch. Alfa Foil makes DAKON plastic containers and buckets, aluminium foil containers, foil rolls, cling film and garbage bags in Raipur, so one order can carry everything a caterer asks for, and one supplier is accountable for all of it.

We work to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000:2018, HACCP and GMP, our aluminium foil containers have been served on Air India, and we supply Reliance Retail. What we commit to distributors in the season is on-time delivery and high-quality stock, and we plan our own production around the two wedding waves.

FAQ: Peak Season Stock Planning for Wedding Season

When is wedding season 2026–27?

Peak season stock planning for 2026–27 covers two waves: 21 November to 12 December 2026 (11 dates) and 15 January to 14 March 2027 (29 dates), per the Drik Panchang calendar for New Delhi. Weddings pause for Kharmas from 16 December 2026 to 14 January 2027. Regional calendars differ by a few dates.

Which disposable items sell most in wedding season?

Buckets sell most — about 2× a normal month in Alfa Foil’s order books — followed by aluminium foil containers at about 1.5×. Garbage bags also rise sharply, and foil rolls and cling film move with the catering basket.

How much extra stock should a distributor keep for wedding season?

Multiply your normal monthly sales by the season multiplier (about 2 for buckets, about 1.5 for foil containers), add cover until your next delivery arrives, and add a 10–15% buffer. Your own sales history beats any average.

When should a distributor order wedding season stock?

At least 2–3 weeks before the first wedding date of each wave. For wave 1 (from 21 November) that means ordering in early November so stock is in your godown by mid-November; for wave 2, order during the Kharmas pause; for February, top up in late January.

Is there a break in wedding season?

Yes. Peak season stock planning should treat Kharmas, 16 December 2026 to 14 January 2027, as a pause with no Hindu wedding dates. It is the best time to clear wave 1 dues and order for wave 2.

What is the minimum order for Alfa Foil wholesale supply?

The minimum order is 30 boxes. Message Alfa Foil on WhatsApp at +91 92019 58140 with your city and product list for availability and a quote.
